My favorite gish gallop was when the media painted Trump as a racist, misogynistic homophobe who wanted to genocide blacks and deport every Muslim. Remember how terrified everyone was in 2016 of those things actually happening? Then they didn’t.

The other issue with dealing with the gish gallop is by addressing every point and taking time to rebutt, you lose time to make your own point and then they jump on that and say you have no plan or idea. This happened a LOT during the Clinton v Trump debates. She spent so much time proving him wrong, she barely got a chance to say what she wanted.

This is one of the reasons I am apalled every time some white person says "Minorities should buy guns so conservatives get scared and ban them". I'm not a fucking sacrificial lamb so you can get a political win over the alt-right. I'm not getting subjected to the inevitable police violence that would come from such a thing just so you can say you saved some white children.

Yes different types of people can't work together. No we don't beat up everyone for it. If you happen to have different ideology with me, that's completely fine. I am love and support National/Cultural Separatism. I think by separating different people with different ideas, like separated into "We love A" "We love B" and "We love C"... We can get away from all conflicts. Nobody would be mad. If everyone is in their own circle, everyone will be happy. There will be multiple Utopia. Then world peace will finally come. But people just don't understand, they always think diversity is a good thing... no... more diverse = more conflicts and war... Because come on, everyone is different. There is no way people with differnet ideas wants to cooperate with each other. Forced cooperation means some human must suffer for others for greater good. That way they won't be happy, and no happy = people will rebel = conflict and wars. Back then it was. Man forcing Woman to cooperate. White forcing Black to cooperate. Straight people forcing Gay people to cooperate. Today it is Woman forcing Man to cooperate. Black forcing White to cooperate. Gay people forcing Straight people to cooperate. It is literally the same just reversed.

I would have enjoued a solution other than the ones i have. Nevertheless, ill present myown. I apreciate if anyone else joins idnn to brain stotm and exchange ideas. Of course, it depentds on the person im dealing with, whether they are online or offline, and so on, so use this with causion, because after all, there are people who use phisucal violence when they dont know they lost the argument. If you realise that at any point the person wont move an inch, and if there is people watching, i tend to intuitively go to the types of low plows which disengenuous people tend not to be good with. 0. Be prepaired to deal with your oponent. If you know what they talk about, than, prepair points before coming to the debate, it will be sooo much easier, and you wount need to be as dishonest as you might otherwise be if you arent prepaired. And ofcourse, goes without saying that of its an important debate or discussion, than learn both yours and your oponents arguments well, and expect the tricky arguments they might make, and have something for their last resort relativistic arguments. 1. Try to make them look silly bymcomparing them to a 5 year old for beeing unable to focus on any one point. Describe in simple terms everything disengenuous that they have done and accuse them of trying to manipulate others. But nevertheless, to appear as the good guy, say sonethibg like " maybe im misinterpreting you, but this is what it looks like to me" Sometimes this will be enough to put them on the defensive. But lets say it isnt. Then you might get a responce like " see, he id trying to distract everyone with a personal attack" , or " what does my focus have to do with the topic" They would try any way to slip through and continue in their typical sharade. Here tho, you can ask them to make an agureement with you, a promice if you will. I tend to go with the good old, " we are both adults, we should be able to at least not interrupt eachother like spoiled children " If they continue without paying any mind, you can interrupt them untill they do. Their lack of self control will look bad to many people. If they comply , than you will act fairly to the agureement and comply with it untill they make a mistake and break it, as it will probably happen. This will show to the audience that this perso. Cant keep even a simple promice not to interrupt someone. You can reffer to this broken promice throughout as a quickfew word reminder. You can chose what the promice is about, but make it simple and doable and dont break it untill they do, which again, should be soon enough. 2. Mirror them Simply, if they keep repeating the same pointsx you do the same thing with yours, and every point of theirs you dont have an argument against, well, relativise it, say " we dont have enough evidence" , " you can say that about anything", " even if its true, it wont work because of X, haven you been listening to what im saying?" 3.straight up laugh at them and make jokes at their expence. Compare their arguments to wise anecdotes which disprove their points. Let me tell ya, if you know how, you can say a wise thing about anything. Watch Slavoi Žižeks video " why i dont like wisedom" And youll see what i mean. 4. If they become really relativistic towards your arguments, then you can accuse them of stripping words out of their meaning, of misinterpreting what you are saying, and say " aah, when you make a point, its objective, but when u make a good point and you dont have a good comeback, then its relative, all of a sudajnx we dont know. No. You dont know" 5. Encourage the audience to fact check them. If possible, factcheck them on the spot. And in the same vain, ask them for sources, then point out to the crowd that he doesnt know sources. 6. If they know how to use gaffs, well, so do we. One misspeak and you have a nickname for them . Basically, be like them, only with the facts on your side, with the abuility to adapt to their actual points, with the abuility to psychoanalise their behaviour on the spot, with the abuility of relatevising of their points into uncirtainty, and of course, with the constant accusation that they Are misundersanding something, then you clarifying in simple terms what they didnt get. The more chances you have to explain misunderstandings, and to teach them, and an audience something that they misunderstood also, is a great way to undermine their autority, establish your own authority, and teach the audience along the way. I frequently explain that sex and gender are not the same thing to conservatives, because they typically dont understand that, and a lot of times its not that they are bad people, but they have just been fed so much bs over the years. Then i take a person, and i say " imagine if you lived like this that and the other" " imagine if your ,insert close person of theirs, had this happen to them. If nothing else, at the very least, make enough solid, genuine arguments to convince anyone reasonable who just misunderstood the politics and whats actually going on, and there are plenty of people like that who just need some compassion and educating. Whille we are on that. Be compassionate to the audience, assume the best of them for the sake of beeing the bigger person. You know how much conservatives love when they hear a leftist agureeing with them 😅 Just like how racists love when black people aguree with them. Frankly, find points like that, since we are human beeings, that shouldnt be too hard. We all love clean water, all love good food, all like to be safe, all like to have free time ( well most of us) so find something you actually believe in to relate to the conservatives with. If your oponents audience relates to you, they will be less likely to want to boo you othright, or to talk bs behind your back. A lot of you know how berney was treated even by a lot of conservatives a few years ago. Its because even if they didnt like his politics, they respected that he sometimes made a point they agureed with, and that he was at least honest at the time. And Berneys reputation was not just good in the US, plenty of other places around europe wanted to see him win, both leftists, liberals and conservatives ive met. Ive no doubt he had support in other places too, but idk for sure bout that since i havent been farther than europe yet. Anywho, as i said at the begining, i would love to talk to others about thease things, what works, what doesent, what you've tried, what you like and dont like about my approaches and so on. We can even talk about how to talk to a reasonable person, since thats pretty much totally different cept for a few main points. Have a lovely day

I think the enemy here is idealism--any time people want to "change the world," they lean toward one side of extremism or another. Communism is just as bad as fascism if it produces the same kinds of results--war, starvation, unjust imprisonment, executions, etc.

it’s so hard to talk about kenny in this game simply because we love him so much, and for some people this is the first time we see depictions of arguably abusive behavior coming from someone we deeply (as the audience as well as the protag) care about in a video game. people don’t question how all his negative traits from season 1 have been blasted to 11. they don’t question how damn violent kenny has become. people don’t question how he has become even more controlling, or how ridiculously scared of him everyone around him becomes. kenny was originally supposed to become someone similar to carver/take carver’s role in the story, and that alone should point to where the writers wanted to take his character i think people figure kenny can’t be abusive because he isn’t an unambiguously bad person when the truth of the matter is that he 100% can be, as could anyone in a stressful environment dealing with unhealed trauma. also a lot of people are bringing up jane for some reason? i don’t think the point is that jane is the superior option, as she has proven able to empathize with other people, only to manipulate them later to prove a point. jane endangered an infant to prove to clem that kenny is dangerous, and while she was right (kenny immediately goes to kill her in a fit of rage over what she states to be a genuine accident, proving jane’s point that kenny is dangerous), she has proven to be unreliable and untrustworthy. but that’s not the point. the point is that kenny is a very complex character

First of all, I would like to say that I think your work is great. I was particularly impressed by the comments on your Gamergate piece. They show that you even manage to get people who were once part of such a movement to look more critically at their own actions today. As for some of the calls for content warnings, I'm ambivalent about them. On the one hand, content warnings can protect legitimate concerns, but on the other, they can also be misused to suppress important issues. I find it particularly worrying that Covid, racism and sexism deniers seem to have discovered this practice for themselves. Of course, it makes perfect sense to place content warnings about videos with violence and similar content. However, it is problematic to require a content warning for literally everything on social media (recommendations for wearing masks, food, supposedly disgusting insects,...). Overuse can lead to its own form of bigotry. In addition, if you as a consumer still want to read posts without clicking on each one individually, you have to set the settings to "read all". This exposes you to all kinds of unfiltered content, including NSFW material. In my opinion, this leads to a devaluation of the original idea of the content warning. Where I draw the line is hard to say myself (what about personal experiences of racism and sexism?). However, content warnings should not have to be renegotiated for every post, but should be defined centrally and comprehensibly for every forum. Anything else destroys the discussion of the actual topic. From my own experience with PTSD, I can say that it doesn't help to protect yourself from everything. Instead, you have to learn again to distinguish between what is really a danger and what is not. This takes time, but it gets better.

I know im just getting hung up on one phrase but framing the EU as being part of a wider community is a bad look. Bexiteers are idiots but the EU is just as much about violating other peoples right to choose as leaving it. I know it's not remotly the point of the video but wanting the EU to stop existing isn't a childish idea.

21:00 I'm going to have to disagree (not entirely but somewhat). A large part of *why racism is efficient* is because it helps maintain the heirarchy of class. Racism is efficient because it pays to overpolice the poor+black neighborhood. Drop the "poor" from this and its not like the police still won't overpolice a middle class black neighborhood (yes those exist), its that if they were to wrongfully detain or use excessive force, then a well-to-do black family has the resources to sue the police, thereby discouraging further overpolicing of that specific community. Solve class, and you won't solve racism, but you sure would make it "inefficient".

It’s a little weird for a leftist to see a movie about an empire secretly massacring people in a foreign land and resettling it with their own citizens as part of an attempt to assimilate this new land into their own government, and call it civilizing them as an analogy for Brexit, framing the larger foreign power as the righteous party. Like, I’m gonna drop the subtext: The Network is an empire that’s trying to colonize Earth. They say that the galactic community is peaceful and great, but we also know that The Network is untrustworthy. The EU analogy doesn’t even make sense. The EU was an agreement made between the member states with full knowledge of what it was and what it means, and everyone opted into it, before the UK decided they didn’t want it anymore. The Network has been slowly, and secretly killing and replacing people to assimilate Earth into itself through force. And, however you may feel about Brexit, there was a referendum, and the majority voted in favor. That’s just how democracy works. It wasn’t comparable to 3 drunk men deciding the fate of the world. It was more than a majority of the people effected. Not to mention that there were only 3 humans left in Newton Haven when Gary’s gang returned. More than 90% of the town was turned into fertilizer and replaced by robots. Allowing The Network to continue WAS NOT a better situation than rejecting it. A lot of people on Earth probably died in the transition, but over 90% would have otherwise

The biggest flaw of this video is making last Republican President the face of the Conservative Tactic. Figures like Steve Bannon deserve more attention since this was effective the Business Plot 2.0. The Current Republican Nominatee is a just a "better" Smedley Butler. The biggest way to take him down is not to attack but paint him as the Trojan Horse he is
